How long does the PADI Instructor Course take?

What is an IDC class?

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification.

You must have 100 logged dives to enroll in the PADI IDC. Expect long nights and many hours studying to prepare for the Instructor Examination. After the IDC you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to pass your IE, plus you’ll have made some life long dive buddies!

Do you tip your PADI instructor?

As diving is a service industry, it is customary to tip your instructor, guide, and/or crew. Some operators will even have a tip jar in the shop or on the boat. However, it is not mandatory to tip. So if you don’t tip, please make sure the service warrants that action.

Is there a swim test for PADI IDC?

Although there are generally no problems, it requires a certain degree of fitness. Obviously swimming with mask, snorkel and fins, using your fins only and face down, is the ideal preparation. The swim test is already completed during the IDC.
