Cavalla was decommissioned and struck from the Naval Register on 30 December 1969. On 21 January 1971, Cavalla was transferred to the Texas Submarine Veterans of World War II. She now resides at Seawolf Park on Pelican Island, just north of Galveston, Texas.

Anglers are expected to abide by a two-pole limit. State laws require a Texas Fishing License but the city-owned park does not regulate or check licenses. Seawolf Park is on Pelican Island off Harborside Drive via Seawolf Parkway (51st Street).
Has the USS Texas been moved?
The Texas has been closed to the public since August of 2019 to allow preparations for her transport to a shipyard for extensive restoration. Once the battleship leaves the shipyard, we anticipate the ship arriving in the new berth around January-February 2022.
